All-India steel industry body partners with IIT Bombay to boost recycling and sustainability

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: To strengthen recycling through electric furnaces to achieve both production and sustainability milestones the All India Induction Furnace Association and the Sustainable Steel Manufacturers Association have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with IIT Bombay.
The association has a sizeable number of members in Jalna from Marathwada.
Association president Yogesh Mandhani said the partnership with IIT was two years in the making. It involves multiple industrial visits by the IIT teams to understand production processes, challenges and opportunities. "Under the MoU framework, member industries will present technical challenges and innovation needs to IITB. The institute will assign expert faculty and research teams to co-develop solutions, drive technological advancements, and raise quality and safety benchmarks in steel production," he said.
Mandhani stated the association with IIT Bombay is not just a short-term project but marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration. "As India advances toward its ambitious target of 300 million tons of steel production by 2030, the need for sustainable, high-quality steel manufacturing has never been more critical. The association with the IIT is aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of ‘Make in India' and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat', and to fulfill the goal of producing quality steel for the world," he said. Industry leaders mentioned that a major motivation for the association with the IIT has been the Ministry of Steel's strong emphasis on fostering research and development, and partnerships between academia and industry to power India's next leap in steel manufacturing excellence. "We are committed to unlocking new avenues for sustainable, efficient, and world-class steel production through collaborations with India's premier institute. We remain open to similar partnerships with premier institutions across the country, fueling innovation and research for a sustainable, self-reliant future in steel making," Mandhani said.
