Roads, defunct street lights in Steel City to be fixed before puja

Jamshedpur: All the main roads and streets that lead to Durga Puja pandals in the Steel City will be thoroughly repaired, the defunct street lights will be fixed, and the overgrown tree branches will be pruned.

The Tata Steel Utility and Infrastructure Services Ltd (TS USIL) has taken the initiative to repair the potholes and fix the damaged pathways to ensure smooth commuting to the pandal hoppers.

The maintenance of the roads within the command limits of Tata Steel is part of the regular job of the utility enterprise but in the wake of this year's high rainfall, the roads have been battered at several places, TS UISL officials said.

"Officials who oversee the urban infrastructure upkeep are on the job. We will ensure that all the roads and street lights are fixed ahead of the festival," a company official said.Earlier a delegation of the Kendriya Durga Paja Samiti (KDPS) submitted a representation to TS UISL GM (town) R K Singh on Aug 29 and sought repair of the roads, installation of street lights at new identified sites, supply of slag to overcome muddy ground at the pandals and levelling of the approach paths to the immersion ghats at the Kharkhai, Subernarekha and Domuhani rivers.
