UK steel news welcome but urgent EU deal progress essential

The European Commission has restored the UK's country specific quota for category 17 steel, which enables UK steelmakers to export goods tariff free.

However, Best for Britain is highlighting the need for the government to do more to break down trade barriers with our largest market across all sectors.

Naomi Smith, chief executive of Best for Britain, said:

“Businesses and manufacturers rely on certainty to export, invest and support jobs. It’s fantastic to see the UK-EU summit delivering for one of our proud industrial sectors - but let’s not stop there.

“It’s essential the government continues to break down trade barriers with our largest market, across all industries. We urgently need to see progress in the areas agreed at the summit to start driving down energy costs and supermarket prices, as voters want to see prioritised.”
